The Ipod glory slowly dimming

Post filled in: Apple

Since we can probably remember Apple, we surely have a special spot in our minds for the “WOW” they made when they released the first Ipod in the series. For those whodon’t know yet what I am talking about, dig deeper, before the Ipod Touch.

Yes, I am referring to the Ipod classic. This is, without a doubt, the first Ipod that made Apple great and loved in the music player market. They sold a staggering number of 5.3 million. The classic did not get nearly as much advertisement as the latter models, on the contrary, it got the lowest advertisement budget of all of Apple’s products. So what was his success? I’ll put it simple… it didn’t need any advertising. It was the ultimate, most desired geek music device you could have, scorring a whopping 160 GB in space, or 40.000 songs, as Apple kept reminding us in that day. That’s more space than my tiny netbook from which I’m typing this has, in fact, it’s eight times more.

Jumping ahead in time a bit, we go to 2007, when the Ipod Touch came out and Apple’s music player started morphing into much more. A lot of peple wondered if it can still be called a “music player”, since you could’ve browsed the internet from a local wifi-enabled zone with it or played modern, graphical demanding games. It became great, I myself had one, many people had, but as Apple continues to evolve its iPod line-up, it has strayed from what made its annual upgrades great in the first place: more storage. Perhaps Steve Jobs will surprise with another announcement soon, but don’t bet on it.
