Once with spring’s arrival, Sony tries to stand out on the compact camera market, through two new models, from different classes. The new Sony DSC-H50 is the heir of the H9 in the high zoom camera class and makes a name for itself, thanks to it’s 9.1 MP sensor and retractable LCD display. Among improvements, compared to its previous model, we can number a new element for lenses, a selectable level of noise reduction, manual adjustments for color and white balancing, as well as a better DRO function (Dynamic Range Optimizer). The all these we can add the well known face and smile recognition functions. H50 wil be available in May at a price of 400$.

With Sony DSC-W300, the Japanese producer introduces a new 1/1.7″ sensor with 13.6 MP, trying to optain a advantage, at least from a numerical point of view, towards the competition. Other facilities worth mentioning are burst photography with 5 frames per second at a 3 MP resolution, 2.7″ LCD display with high resolution and a Super Steady Shot optical stabilizer system. The later will probably used more often for photos with reduced luminosity for the 3x optical zoom. We can’t help noticing though, that Sony stubborns to keep the ocular as a way to save battery energy, when a vast part of producers have long gone renounced it. Sony DSC-W300 will surface at the same time as the DSC-H50 and will probably circulate at a price of 350$.
