Digital Imaging Systems, a more or less known component manufacturer, has announced that the company will soon be shipping camera modules for phones and other devices, capable of shooting single images at 3488×2616 pixels—that’s 9 megapixeles! I don’t know about you guys, but I own a Samsung D900i, capable of shooting 2 MP pics and I think it’s more then enough, but 9 MP? Common… And I’m not even mentioning the technical complications behind this. Imagine Cramping up a module, that usually sits in a big ass camera, down a tiny mobile phone. Even if this were possible, it would probably cost a fortune.
Another great fact for the sell sheet is that the low-powered CMOS will allow for 30-frame-per second 720p high-def video recording. The module contains the imaging sensor plus an auto-focus apparatus, aperture and mechanical shutter. Again, this all sounds too good to be true, but if they pull this off, this won’t be anything short of microphotography miracle.
