Good news from Samsung for the memory market: the world’s first 4GB DDR3 DRAM PC memory chip using 50-nm processes. These chips are said to reduce power consumption by 40% compared to previous DDR memory modules and the best thing is that the road will eventually lead to 32GB DIMM modules. Servers will be the first to benefit from the first 16GB modules, desktops will have 8GB DDR3 DIMMs and laptops 8GB SO-DIMMS. Unfortunately, no date is available as to when these will be available as Samsung didn’t comment on the matter.
