Qualcomm intends to ship 1.5GHz QSD8672 Snapdragon processor in forth quarter

Qualcomm announced on Monday that they plan to ship a Snapdragon processor with a  1.5GHz   after lots of delays, with a high probability of device launches by the end of this year . This  would be the fastest Snapdragon dual-core chip made by Qualcomm and it will be used in smartphones, low-cost laptops and tablet PC  production.

Mark Frenkel said that the Qualcomm CDMA Technologies will start shipping the dual-core QSD8672 chip with CPU cores running at up to 1.5GHz in the fourth quarter, he also said that devices with the new chip installed are to be launched early in 2011, but product launches could appear by the end of this year .

The chip is a follow-up to the dual-core MSM8660 Snapdragon chip, which started shipping in the second quarter. The 8672 has a faster processor than 8660, which includes CPU cores running at 1.2GHz. The processor in the 8672 chip, which comes as an improvement to the MSM8600 that runs at 1.2GHz ,  is based on an Arm design and will be manufactured using the 45-nanometer process.

Improvements for the new 8672 chip make it to consume less power due to it’s core individuality and also the 1080p video playback features  are to be mentioned.

Snappdragon processor are used by Dell on Streak tablet , HP , Lenovo and Hewlett-Packard installed the processor on laptops so Qualcomm’s 8672 chip with Snapdragon processor is expected on future devices produced by this companies, the chip having integrated HDMI and DDR2 and DDR3 memory interfaces. Snapdragon processors are now used on several smartphones from HTC.
