Toshiba Portege R500: possibly the lightest laptop in the world
I recently came across the latest portable from the Portege R500 series, of which producers Toshiba say that it’s the “lightest notebook in the world”
Elegant and extremely thin (19,5 mm), weighing just 799 grams (a hundred less then any other competitor in it’s class), the R500-10U model with a 12,1 inch display, is designed to offer complete confidence to business men, trough the presence of a digital imprint authentication sensor, a sprinkling resistant keyboard and a magnesium case.
At the same time it’s the first Toshiba laptop with SSD (Solid State Drive), at 64 GB - a replacement to to classic hard-drive, characterized by excellent vibration and shock resistance, considerable lower energy consumption, faster data transfer speed and it makes little to no noise. From a hardware point of view, the R500 will more then likely satisfy any day to day requirements from a tipical business men, with out wasting time with loading and so on.
Another version of the R500 (11Z), this time gifted with a DVD writer of only 7 mm in thickness, 3D hard-drive and accelerometer, for the their protection against damaged caused by shock or falls. It will be a bit heavier, but still under a kilogram. Both models of the R500 series claim they can guarantee a 7 to 12.5 hours autonomy. (that’s a bit too good to be true).
