There’s a big discussion in the IT&C field regarding this year’s top smartphone models, more exactly around the stiff competition between two of the biggest players – Samsung and Apple. There are some other phones released this years which are prown to climb in the top, but I will review only the big two.

I will present a small overview of the most important tech specs, Operating Systems, newest features and I will leave the aesthetics for you to decide.

iPhone 4 remains still an iPhone with great quality pictures made in good lighting conditions, HD video recordings in 720 pixels resolution but when using it in dimmed light the LED flash works poorly, image quality is droped slightly.

Apple have brought improvements to the display, the screen is visible from the side with clear text but the transreflexive characteristics of the display make reading hard under direct light.

Users have encountered some issues with the antenna, it’s position in the right side under the metallic frame makes holding the phone with the entire hand problematic, decreasing reception.  Apple solves this problem promising every customer a free case aiming to protect the antenna from unwanted touch. You can read further details in the iPhone 4 Case Program.

Although people worship iPhone 4 my personal favorite is Samsung Galaxy S. One reason might be the OS, Android 2.1 (codename: Froyo) highly equipped, ideal for multimedia , social networks and GPS apps. The smartphone has a 4 inch AMOLED screen which offers not only high resolution and sensational display but also great luminosity. If the iPhone has an irreplaceable battery, Samsung offers the possibility of changing any faulty battery after it’s lifespan has passed.

Samsung’s top model with corresponding applications such as Sygic Mobile Maps 10 becoms an ideal onboard navigation tool. If you have an according service for data transfer you can benefit from Google Maps software.

Both phone can be purchased from resellers  at about the same price.

“but the transreflexive characteristics of the display make reading hard under direct light.”

This is incorrect. It is the *lack* of a transflective coating on the iPhone 4 (as opposed to previous iPhones) that makes it difficult to read under direct light (sunlight).

The only step backwards they took, IMO.
