Nokia N78: another multimedia to hurt your pocket

Post filled in: Cellphones

For Nokia, the Mobile World Congress fair is a good opportunity to show off their uncontestable multimedia arsenal. Today they’ve announced the new spear head of the N-series, the Nokia N96, of which we’ve been talking a lot lately, followed by the Nokia N78, a compact phone, very well equipped.

Nokia N78 costs 350 euros, without taxes, and doesn’t quite stand out that much, if we consider taking a look at the latest N series phones, released during last year. I can go as far as saying that the N78 is nothing more then a upgrade for the Nokia N81 – the 3,2 MP (instead of a 2MP) camera and the Symbian S60 rel. 3.2 OS, compared to the 3.1 version present on the N81. Another notable plus would be the increase in Internet speed, of up to 3.6 Mbps (HSPDA technology).

A more careful analysis reveals a tendency among major producers to release conveyor belt phones, especially with the occasion of special events. It’s quite normal, but out of all the devices presented one, maybe two deserve taking in consideration (see Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1). The rest, the same old models with modern shapes. All to create enough hype to entice buyers to purchase the respective models.

I for one see, all these so called producers, as famous casinos that make you spend even your list cents. But this is how it goes with every product, not just mobile phones.
