BlackBerry ban in India would be one big painful blow to RIM, which already suffered dramatic share drops due to Indonesian authorities statement and Saudi Arabia actions to ban BlackBerry, though the last one reprieved the services ban. India’s BlackBerry users make an important market segment for Research in Motion, the number passes easily 1 million users in India.
India has given the maker of BlackBerry phones a deadline of 31 August to provide the government access to all of its services or face being shut down. They mentioned the 2008 terrorist attacks, fears about terrorist using RIM’s handsets to communicate securely are the main concern of the authorities. No comment were made from the phone making company because they will probably conform with India’s conditions.
United Arab Emirates was the spark that ignited all banning actions and threats and it appears India joins the list of the states having problems with BlackBerry security.
