Because of the low sales for December, Microsoft announced a series of measures to reduce cost, among which cutting 5,000 jobs or about 5 percent of it’s workforce during the next year and a half. Raises won’t be offered and cutbacks will be made on vendors and contractors.

These are the first reductions ever across all Microsoft. In the past, Microsoft decreased it’s ranks, but only in a few selected areas. Among the targeted jobs to be eliminated are human relations, research and development, finance, just to name a few.

With these measures, $ 1.5 billion will be cut, but there are some rumors of the cuts being up to 15 percent of the workforce.
