Google financing humanitarian programs

Google announced that it will invest a considerable amount of money in a few humanitarian projects, that concern various areas of concern like health, environmental threats or service improvements.

The 5 initiatives are a attempt to approach some serious issues, which the world will have to face in the future. According to Dr. Larry Brilliant’s (now that’s a scientist name) statments, executive director at Google.org, the choices were based on two aspects: the resolving of these problems will ensure a better place and safer place for us and the future generations, and at the same time, they are encapsulated in the companies beliefs.

The 5 directions in which the company will donate important sums of money to, are predictions and prevention, information and power of public services improvements, financing for the development of small and middle class businesses, the development of a cheaper energy source then coal, the acceleration of plug-in vehicles sales.

According to these five formulated objectives, there will be made 5 million dollars worth of donations for InSTEED (Innovative Support to Emergencies, Diseases and Disasters), for the enhancement of detection, preparation and answer capabilities in case of global health threat, 2.5 million dollars for the Global Health and Security Initiative (GHSI) for prevention, detection and deployment against biological threats, over 600.000$ for Clark University, with the purpose of developing a system, that can improve the monitoring, analysis and prediction of various modifications in the ecosystem, food and health in Africa and Amazon area.

The money for service improvements will end up in India - 2 million for Pratham, ONG; 765.000$ for Centre for Budget and Policy Studies and 660.000$ for Center of Policy Research.

4,7 million dollars will get to TechnoServe, in the attempt to develop and implement a busines plan for the sustainment of Ghana and Tanzania based entrepreneurs.

The funding for a alternative energy source, more exactly 10 million dollars, will be put at the disposal of eSolar, a company specialized in solar thermal power which replaces the fuel in the traditional solar heated electrical power plants.

Google will also invest 10 million dollars to accelerate the adoption of electrical hybrid cars. With this in mind, it will invest packages worth between 500.00$ and 2 millions dollars in various companies that, with a innovative approach, will allow the commercial use at a large scale, fo these eco friendly vehicles.

According to various statements, Google will continue, in paralel, filantropical programs, among which we can number Google Grants, Google Apps and Google Earth.
